He Will Release His First Album

Donald Loignon Faces the Hard Path

By Simon Busque If everything goes as planned, guitarist Donald Loignon from Saint-Georges will release his first album next February. He has been working on it for over a year and is eager to see his “first baby” come to life.

A self-taught musician, Donald Loignon has been playing guitar for 17 years. After performing in several bands (Absolu, Hexagone, Messersmith, Feedback), Donald pursued his dream of releasing a solo album. He submitted a project to the Conseil des arts et des lettres, which eventually awarded him a $6,975 grant last January.

12 Instrumental Tracks

Donald Loignon did not choose the easy route, as the 12 tracks on his self-titled album are all instrumental. The style is very diverse, ranging from blues to classical rock, hard rock, and rock fusion.

“I’ve heard many guitarists playing instrumental music, and it’s always fascinated me,” he said in an interview. Unsurprisingly, his influences include guitarists like Eddie Van Halen, Randy Rhoads, Joe Satriani, and Frank Gambel. “The instrumental music market is quite limited, though,” he admits.

Searching for a Record Label

With most of his material nearly ready (only the mastering remains to be done), Donald is searching for a record label or distributor willing to support him. However, results have been slow to come.
Sony Music has already declined his invitation. “The response from record labels has been mostly negative. If I don’t get a positive answer by mid-January, I will release it myself,” he says.

In total, 500 CDs and 250 cassettes will be released on the market.
